The Essex Rebel’s Women’s basketball team have won through to the 2021 Women’s British Basketball League (WBBL) play-offs and you can watch them live online.
The game will be screened live on the British Basketball website at 5:30pm on Sunday May 2 so fans can cheer on from home.
Director of Sport Dave Parry said: “It’s an amazing achievement for the Essex Rebels to reach the WBBL live play-offs in their third season, particularly after all the challenges of the pandemic. We want to encourage as many people as possible to watch the game live and support the Essex Rebels.”
This is the Essex Rebels’ third season in the WBBL and its turning into their most successful yet,
The team is made up of Essex undergraduates, postgraduates and alumni of the University; plus one player from the locacl area and another who is joining the University in the next academic year.
The national men’s and women’s play-offs are called ‘May Madness’ - which is similar to the ‘March Madness’ of the NCAA play offs in the US. Only the top eight teams in the WBBL qualify for the tournament which is played across two weeks and three venues.
The whole tournament will be broadcast by Sky Sports which, for the first time will include all women’s games too.
The quarter-finals are taking place in Newcastle on Saturday May 1 and Sunday May 2, with two games on each day. You can watch the Essex Rebels WBBL quarter-finals game against London Lions live at 5:30pm on the British Basketball League website.
