The 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject show the University of Essex in the global top 50 for ‘Politics and International Studies’ and ‘Sociology’. Essex is also ranked in the top 100 for ‘Linguistics’.

Executive Dean for the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Moya Lloyd, said: “The QS World University Rankings by Subject once again show the academic strength of the Faculty.

“We score particularly strongly for our academic reputation in the social sciences and the number of citations secured by our research. This reflects our commitment to high-quality research, which seeks to change the world and engages with global issues, alongside our extensive international research networks.”

The QS World University Rankings team reviews data from 1,453 institutions plus results of its survey of more than 100,000 academics and 50,000 global employers. The final rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per paper plus an H-Index score analysing productivity and impact.

Essex is also in the top 150 for ‘Economics and Econometrics’, in the top 200 for ‘Philosophy’ and ‘Accounting and Finance’ and in the top 250 for ‘Law’ and ‘English Language and Literature’.

For Social Sciences and Management overall Essex is ranked 212th with Arts and Humanities ranked 258th.
