We welcomed a delegation of 12 staff from the University of Ghana to our Colchester Campus to discuss further developing our relationship and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Dean of Partnerships Professor Dominic Micklewright said: “This was a high level delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana which followed up our Vice-Chancellor’s successful visit to the University of Ghana in November.

“The aim of the visit was to identify and develop new collaborative research including joint grant applications especially focused on the Global Challenges Research Fund and the Newton Fund. We also discussed joint PhDs, supervisor training and research capacity building.”

The delegation included the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Deans.

The MOU covered:

  • Developing joint PhD programmes
  • Developing student mobility opportunities – particularly short-term/summer study tour type programmes for our students to go to Ghana
  • Exploring opportunities for research collaborations, particularly within the UK Government’s Global Challenges Research Fund activities

The visit involved presentations from staff from across our faculties including the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, the School of Law, the School of Health and Social Care, and the Research and Enterprise Office.
