Data analytics publication

A publication showcasing our expertise in analytics and data science has won recognition in the annual Circle of Excellence Awards.

Organised by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), these international awards recognise outstanding work in communications plus advancement services, alumni relations, fundraising and marketing.

This year there were over 3,200 entries from colleges, universities and schools across the world, and we won a silver award in the research publications category for Essex A World-Class Centre of Excellence in Analytics and Data Science.

The publication, led by our Communications Office, shows how Essex researchers are challenging conventional approaches and using data to solve the big problems we all face in every aspect of our lives.

Professor Maria Fasli, UNESCO Chair in Analytics and Data Science and Director of Institute for Analytics and Data Science at Essex, said: “For over half a century we have been at the forefront of analytics and data science, pioneering quantitative methods and artificial intelligence techniques. We wanted to produce an publication which brought all this expertise together to show our stakeholders and potential partners why Essex is special. Conveying our unique narrative and distinct vision in an easily accessible way, to audiences from diverse backgrounds, has been a challenge but we believe we have achieved that. We’re pleased the judges agree with us and we are delighted with the award.”

Judges praised the publication for its contemporary design, the use of emotion-provoking visuals and strong writing and content which together meant even readers who are not data-savvy scientists would find the issue covered digestible and enjoyable.
