A total of 44 new academic roles will be created this summer as we boldly plan for the future thanks to increasing numbers of students.

We are on track to meet our ambitious target of growing by 50% over 2013 to 2019, and are expanding our academic community thanks to this growth. The new recruits will also help us to continue to deliver a transformative education and experience for our students.

These new posts will mean we have created close to 200 new permanent academic posts over the past five years. The new posts include lecturers and senior lecturers, research fellows and professors across all faculties.

New academics will also contribute to our strategic commitment to improve staff-student ratios across the institution.

"We are investing in recruiting academics to ensure we continue to deliver a high-quality educational experience while also building our research strength."

Essex is recognised for attracting talented academics and students from across the world and is in the top 20 for international outlook in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jules Pretty said: “More students than ever before are choosing Essex and we are investing in recruiting academics to ensure we continue to deliver a high-quality educational experience while also building our research strength.

“We are optimistic about the future and determined to continue delivering dual excellence in education and research.

“We’re proud to be one of a small number of universities who are gold rated in the UK Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework while also having an outstanding reputation for research – ranked in the top 25 for research quality in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.”

We will be recruiting academics to 28 full-time roles and 26 part-time roles in the coming months so they are ready to start in August and September.
