A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) from the Department of Economics has been recognised in this year’s Excellence in Teaching Awards. Zeina Alsharkas will receive her award at the department’s graduation ceremony.

"I am really honoured to receive this award as it comes at the same time as the University received the Gold rating in TEF. The award is not only recognition of our hard work as GTAs but it also showcases the positive impact we have had on students' learning. I am grateful for the support and the wonderful experience that the University of Essex and the Department of Economics in particular have given me."

The Excellence in Teaching Awards are open to GTAs and all full and part time teaching staff at Essex. They recognise excellence in supporting the learning experience of our students.

Each year up to four awards are made to staff in the Early Career and Experienced categories, plus a further four awards to GTAs.

The awards look for evidence of staff that have promoted and enhanced the student learning experience, supported colleagues and influenced support for student learning within their department and demonstrated commitment to their ongoing professional development.
