All this week we are celebrating the achievements of some of our students who are graduating in the class of 2017. Jane Mullan , graduating today from the School of Law, tells us her story.

Jane Mullan (LLB Law) finally made it to university, 30 years after leaving her school, after her daughter, who had just finished her own law degree, encouraged her mother to follow suit.

“I always wanted to go to university, but when I left school it was more important for me to work. Then children got in the way. I am so glad I finally came, I have absolutely loved it,” said Jane, who has juggled studying with bringing up her three younger children, all of whom have special needs.

Jane says she has had a very different university experience to the majority of students, but feels her experience of life, and in particular her time-management skills, have been invaluable.

She now intends to do a Masters in cybercrime – having researched it during her time on the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme. A PhD could follow, and eventually Jane hopes to end up back in court, as a solicitor, rather than the interpreter she worked as when she lived in Spain for six years.
