Excellence in Education Award

The Excellence in Education Award (EEA) is inspired by the University’s mission to achieve excellence in both education and research. We aim to provide students with a transformational education experience and intellectually challenging and stimulating courses that are based on creative and innovative approaches.

The EEA recognises and celebrates our institutional commitment to enabling our students to contribute positively to communities and societies around them.

Award categories

There are three categories for 2019. These can be submitted by self or peer nomination.

  1. Excellent Graduate Teaching/Laboratory Assistant Award.
  2. Excellent Educator Award (individual or collaborative): open to academics and/or professional services.
  3. Excellence in Education Leadership Award: open to academics and/or professional services.

Who can apply?

All full- and part-time members of staff with responsibility for supporting the student learning experience are eligible to apply. This includes Professional Services staff in supporting administrative roles as well as academic staff and GTAs. Applicants from UK Essex partner institutions are also welcome to apply.

How to apply

Read the award guidance and complete an application form by 5pm on Friday 29 March 2019.

Applications should be submitted electronically via the Excellence in Education Award Moodle site.

Activities the award can support

The award fund can be spent on professional development activities of the winners.

  • Excellent Graduate Teaching/Laboratory Assistant Award (individual or collaborative) consists of £250 for each applicant/nominee.
  • Excellent Educator Award (individual or collaborative) consists of £1,000 for each individual applicant/nominee and £2,000 for a collaborative award to be shared equally amongst the team.
  • Excellence in Education Leadership Award consists of one prize of £1,000 for each applicant/ nominee.

Award timeline

  • Closing date for applications: Friday 29 March 2019
  • Announcement of results: Wednesday 8 May 2019
  • Celebration event: Thursday 9 May 2019 11.15am - 12.30pm
