The Excellence in Education Award (EEA) is inspired by the University’s mission to achieve excellence in both education and research. We aim to provide students with a transformational education experience and intellectually challenging and stimulating courses that are based on creative and innovative approaches.
The EEA recognises and celebrates our institutional commitment to enabling our students to contribute positively to communities and societies around them.
Applicants can apply for either of the three awards:
Excellent Graduate Teaching Assistant Award: individual award for GTAs/ GLAs.
Excellent Educator Award: individual award for academics and/or professional services.
Excellent Educators Award: collaborative award for academics and/or professional services.
Who can apply?
All full- and part-time members of staff with responsibility for supporting the student learning experience are eligible to apply. This includes Professional Services staff in supporting administrative roles as well as academic staff and GTAs. Applicants from UK Essex partner institutions are also welcome to apply.

Activities the award can support
The award fund can be spent on professional development activities of the winners. The breakdown of the award is as follows:
Up to five awards of £250 are available to staff under the Excellent Graduate Teaching Assistant/ Graduate Lab Assistant Award
Up to four individual awards of £1000 are available to staff under the Excellent Educator Award category
Up to two awards of £2000 are available under the Excellent Educators collaborative team category
