Professor Sheri Markose scher@essex.ac.uk
We welcome you to the second Kick the Tyres Lab Session for the AI FincubeX Tech Incubator at the University of Essex. Co-chaired by Professor Sheri Markose (Department of Economics) and Dr Michael Kampouridis (School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering).
3:00pm - 3:30pm: Dr. Haider Raza (CSEE) - Agentic AI: From Autonomous Decision-Making to Real-World Applications
This talk fits well with the objectives of AI FincubeX and provides a broad overview of the technology, current developments, and practical applications across sectors including finance, healthcare, and enterprise AI.
3:30pm - 4:00pm: Taylor Bright - From 0 to $1m: Building Perfect Entry into an Auditable AI-Driven Retail Market Intelligence Platform
The presentation covers the journey from building Perfect Entry from zero to around £100k monthly recurring revenue, through to the current rebuild as a more data-led platform with live signals, AI-assisted session screening, currency-strength analytics, transparent performance data and an immutable trade-event chain for auditability.
4:00pm - 4:10pm: Q & A
4:10pm - 4:40pm: Arda Kaya (Presenter), Olajuwon Daniel Obafemi-Aminu, Yanjie Xie and Mariana Gómez Leal Sandoval - Talk to Your Data: A Natural-Language Query Agent on Oracle Cloud
The presentation covers how we built an AI agent that lets non-technical users query a live business database in plain English instead of SQL. It walks through the system we built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure: natural-language-to-SQL generation with Oracle Select AI, a retrieval-augmented (RAG) layer using Oracle AI Vector Search over supporting documents, an LLM-based router that decides whether each question needs the live database or the knowledge base, and a deployed web application, followed by a live demonstration.
4:40pm - 4:50pm: Q & A
4:50pm - 5:00pm: Concluding remarks and plans for next Lab Session
5:00pm - 5:30pm: Networking
This event is held on Colchester campus in IT Lab O, and online through Zoom.
