In her talk Sylwia will introduce Multimodal Experiential Mapping - a novel method developed to facilitate the study of multisensory embodied experiences. She will discuss the method's interpretive and generative potential and explain how it can enrich our methodological repertoire.
Sylwia will also reflect on the analytical and practical challenges linked to this method. She will support her argument by drawing on her on-going study with recent graduates navigating the challenges of hybrid work as organisational newcomers.
Sylwia Ciuk is a Reader in Organisation Studies at Oxford Brookes Business School, UK where she also acts as the Deputy Head of the Doctoral Programmes.
She is a sociologist and linguist by background. Sylwia carries out culture- and power-sensitive studies of organisational change, especially the translation of practices (e.g. values, leadership) across languages and cultures. She is also interested in language diversity, linguistic inclusion and interlingual translation in multinational organisations. Sylwia’s work has been published in a range of journals such as Human Relations, Management Learning, Organization Studies, British Journal of Management, Work, Employment and Society and the Journal of Global Mobility.
Sylwia is currently working on two research projects: ‘The translation of inclusive leadership practices across languages and cultures’ (funded by the British Academy of Management and the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies) as well as ‘The pathways to organisational inclusion among recent home and international graduates: a multisensory mapping perspective’ funded by the British Academy.
