Your induction to your Department is an essential part of Welcome Week at the University of Essex. Discover all Department of Government Welcome Week 2023 events for all study levels.

Undergraduates

Tuesday 3rd October 2023

• Your introduction the Department of Government, and the staff who will be on-hand to help and guide you through your studies.
• This event includes talks from the Head of Department, Undergraduate Director, Personal Tutor, Academic Liaison Librarian, Students’ Union and Careers Services Team.
• After this event, you will be guided to the Undergraduate First Year Welcome and Networking Lunch in the Tony Rich Teaching Centre foyer.

• This event provides you with a chance to meet and speak with other new students in the Department of Government.
• You will also get to meet the staff who will be supporting you during your first year of study, and enjoy lunch together (catering includes vegan and gluten-free options).

• Your opportunity to meet your Personal Tutor and Peer Mentors.
• This is the perfect time to ask questions and find out more about your studies, student wellbeing and student support services. 

Postgraduate Taught

 Wednesday 4th October 2023

• Your chance to meet with your peers and gain an insight into the Department of Government.
• You will be meeting with Department staff who will help and guide you throughout the upcoming academic year.
• Talks will be given by the Head of Department, Undergraduate Director, Personal Tutor, Academic Liaison Librarian, Students’ Union and Careers Services Team.

• A chance to meet and greet your peers and tutors from the Department of Government.
• Your opportunity to socialise and enjoy some lunch (catering includes vegan and gluten-free options).

Postgraduate Research

Thursday 5th October 2023

• Our Postgraduate Research Induction will commence after the morning Postgraduate Welcome Conference hosted in the Hex. Once the Welcome Conference has concluded, a member of staff will meet you and the tour of the Department of Government will begin.

• During your tour you will be introduced to the PhD working space, Admin Office, common room and PhD Lab.

• You will also receive an induction session with the Postgraduate Director Dr Brian Phillips.
