In honour of Disability Pride Month, the Essex Access Forum will be hosting a low-key café for members of our community to join us for a chat.

We have so many champions and advocates for Disability and Accessibility across our community, both geographically throughout our three campuses and in amongst the staff and student bodies alike.

These cafés are an opportunity for us to foster a sense of belonging and community at Essex for those who have experiences of or a vested interest in Disability and Accessibility. More importantly, it’s a chance for us to come together and be proud of who we are, celebrate those we love with disabilities, or even learn about what the experience of being disabled is like at university or in the workplace.

This is genuinely just an opportunity to come together, share stories, and start to build a community that has accessibility at the core of it.

Please do bring people along and join us – membership to the Forum is not essential, and honestly, we’d love to see people from across the University!

I’m afraid this is Colchester only, so it’s just a lunch thing, but I would encourage our communities in Southend and Loughton to also think about any way you can celebrate this important month. I will do my best to work with colleagues in Southend and Loughton for next year to see if we can’t do something more joined up!

Those of us with a disability, and our advocates, spend a lot of time fighting for the right to equity and a reasonable working or learning environment – this is your chance to sit and relax with likeminded people.

Who’s the event for?

The Disabled Community.

Is it open to all?

Yes, absolutely. We welcome anyone who wants to celebrate or learn more about disability.
