Our Postgraduate Open Evening will feature a range of talks and sessions to get you thinking about postgraduate study at Essex.

 

During the evening you'll have the chance to speak with students and staff, ask questions and get the answers you need about things such as funding and accommodation, and learn more by attending talks on topics such as applying to Essex and funding your studies. Many of our academic departments will also be on hand during the evening if you want to speak about a particular course or area of research. You'll also have the opportunity to be shown around our Colchester Campus by a student ambassador and have a look inside student accommodation.

The main venue for this event is the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall, but we will also be using the Hex as a base for refreshments as well as departments and student services. Our student ambassadors will be on hand to take you between locations.

Schedule for the day

3.00pm - Arrival and check-in 

From 3.00pm you can check into the event in the Upper Foyer of the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall. Our staff will check you into the event and will give you all the help and guidance you need about what's going on and where to go. Just make sure you have booked in advance and you have your booking confirmation email on your phone or printed out.

3.30pm - Welcome to Essex talk

In this talk we'll give you a warm welcome to our Colchester Campus and will introduce you to the University of Essex. This talk will be perfect for you if you've not been a student at Essex before and have not attended any other Essex open events recently. This talk will be in Auditorium A in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

4.00pm - Applying to Essex talk

Learn about how you can apply to study a postgraduate taught or research degree at Essex. We'll talk you through everything you need to do to start and complete a successful application with us. This talk will be in Auditorium A in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

4.45pm - Funding your studies talk

In this talk you'll discover the myriad ways in which you can pay for your postgraduate course. We'll discuss sources of funding including tuition fee loans, discounts, scholarships, studentships and more. This talk will be in Auditorium A in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

5.30pm - Postgraduate study in our School of Health and Social Care

If you're interested in studying one of our many health and social care courses, come along to this session and learn more about what we can do for you. We teach courses on speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, oral health sciences, clinical psychology, psychological wellbeing, and more! This talk will be in Auditorium A in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

6.15pm - Student panel (for current Essex students)

In this session for current Essex students, some of our postgraduate students will discuss their experience of studying a postgraduate degree and the benefits of staying at Essex, including our Alumni Loyalty Discount and fast-track application process. This session will be in Auditorium B in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

6.15pm - Student panel (for new students)

In this session for new students, some of our postgraduate students will discuss their experience of studying a postgraduate degree and being a student at the University of Essex. This session will be in Auditorium A in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.

Student services

From 3.00pm, members of staff from many of our Student Services will be available for you to chat with, including Admissions, Funding, and Accommodation in our second venue, the Hex. Student ambassadors will be about take you between each location.

Academic departments

From 3.00pm, many of our academic departments will be available for you to chat with and ask questions about studying at Essex, the courses we offer, life in an academic department, and much more. They will be in our second venue, the Hex. Student ambassadors will be about to take you between each location.

Campus and accommodation tours

During this event we'll be running a few campus and accommodation tours. These will give you the chance to have a look around our Colchester Campus and see our student accommodation. You'll be taken on the tour by one of our fantastic student ambassadors, who are current Essex students. Feel free to ask them lots of questions about life at Essex as they show you around!

Refreshments

Tea, coffee, water, other drinks and snacks will be available for you free-of-charge in our pop-up cafe in the Hex.

Travelling to our Colchester Campus

By car

If you are travelling to the campus by car, please use the University’s address below and park in ‘Valley Car Park’ just off of Boundary Road. There will be additional signage to direct you in the correct parking area on the day.

By train

 

If you have travelled by train, the following bus routes will take you to our Colchester Campus.

 

From Colchester North Station: 61, 62, 62B. Route map can be found here.

 

The buses run every 15 to 20 minutes from Colchester North Station, taking you through Colchester Town Centre, our closest town to campus.

COVID-19 restrictions when visiting our Colchester Campus

To keep our staff, students and visitors safe, we have a number of additional measures on campus to protect our community from COVID-19. Visitors are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering during their visit, particularly in indoor areas. Hand sanitiser stations will be available in all main locations, as well as toilets and hand washing facilities.

 

Please do not travel to our Colchester Campus if you, or a member of your household tests positive for, or has symptoms of COVID-19.
