Join Essex Business School for our version of Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs and business practitioners of Latin America can pitch to win a scholarship to The Essex MBA.

Take on the challenge.

Our sharks would like to hear your business idea. Following the format of the TV show Shark Tank you’ll deliver a short pitch based on a business idea.

At the start of their pitch each candidate will be asked to summarise their business idea in the form of a one minute elevator pitch. You’ll then spend around five minutes expanding your ideas by presenting your idea using the ‘business canvas’ template that we will supply. Finally our sharks will then have a few minutes to ask you questions. A full brief will be sent by email to registered candidates.

You should aim to demonstrate the passion, energy and positivity that will make you feel at home as part of the The Essex MBA. Remember, it’s more about you as an individual and potential MBA candidate than the actual product, service or other business you are pitching.

Before the pitch you will have the opportunity to find out more about Essex, Essex Business School and The Essex MBA by joining the welcome webinar. Details of the webinar will be shared with you once you register for the event.

Why take part?

The winner of Essex MBA Virtual Shark Tank (Latin America) will be considered for a scholarship for the full-time Essex MBA programme for October 2021 entry. The scholarship will be awarded as a discount on your fee and could be worth up to 100%.*

Even if you’re not the winner, you may still receive a scholarship offer as your attendance at the event will act as your MBA admissions interview, meaning by taking part you will automatically be considered for the MBA Dean’s Award. You will have the opportunity to make an impression on the Director of the Essex MBA, Professor Nicolas Forsans, and receive career advice and advice on your own business ideas.

Email us to request your place at Shark Tank

You can request a place at Shark Tank by emailing us. Your email should include:

What if pitching isn't for me?

Our sharks would love to see you pitch an idea; remember it doesn’t need to be a polished business plan or a completely unique idea.

You could pitch about anything!

If you definitely don’t want to pitch then you won’t be able to participate on the day, however you can find out more about the Essex MBA by emailing us to book an individual Zoom or phone call with a member of the team.

Do I have to be interested in the MBA to take part?

The pitch time slots are reserved for those who are considering studying an MBA in the UK, with the winning pitch being considered for a generous scholarship to start the course in 2021.

If this isn’t for you then you will not be able to pitch.

If I've already had an interview, can I still take part?

Unfortunately, if you’ve already been interviewed for The Essex MBA then you won’t be able to take part in this event. However keep an eye on your emails for an opportunity to meet the MBA Director, Professor Nicolas Forsans, in an exclusive online event for offer holders.

I have an offer for a different Essex course

If you’re holding an offer for any other undergraduate or postgraduate course at Essex Business School then please get in touch with us on ebs@essex.ac.uk.
