After Essex celebrates the journeys and accomplishments of our diverse and inspiring alumni around the globe. We are delighted to be joined by alumnus and former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow for our next After Essex event.

John is a proud member of the Essex community; he was awarded an Honorary Degree in 2010 and in 2017 appointed Chancellor of the University. In the years in his role as Chancellor, he has always has an interesting story to tell or an anecdote to share, both from his time at Essex and his career in politics.

Speaking with Vanessa Potter, Director of Communications and External Relations, John shares memories from studying in our Department of Government in the 1980s, his time as a Member of Parliament, and, of course, his ten years as Speaker of the House of Commons. We hope you will be able to join us for the exclusive event, offering a rare insight into John's journey from first generation university student to a figure of reform in British politics.

John welcomes questions from all members of the Essex community, submit yours in advance via email
