Jeremy Krikler explores the problems and opportunities of using a research-driven play in teaching the slave trade.
Join us in the Department of History for our first research seminar of the academic year. This week's seminar will be led by Dr Jeremy Krikler, a Reader in the Department of History. In this seminar, Dr Krikler will explore the problems and opportunities of using a research-driven play in teaching the slave trade.
How can history be embedded in a dramatic fiction? Does use of a fictional portrayal necessarily violate the history teacher's/scholar's ethos of conveying the past with accuracy and integrity? These questions are explored through Krikler's play and research on the notorious slave ship The Zong, rendered by Turner in his famous picture from 1840.
