Student Development Department
The Essex English Language Assessment is compulsory for all international students with English as an additional language.
If you are an international student then you probably already have an English language certificate of proficiency such as IELTS or TOEFL. However, like most other British universities we require all newly registered students whose first language is not English to sit a short English language assessment of our own.
If your first language is not English, you'll need to attend the assessment briefing session on Monday 30 September at one of the following times:
All sessions take place in Lecture Theatre Building 6 (LTB 6)
12 noon-1pm: Law (including Human Rights Centre); Sociology; Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences; Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
1pm-2pm: Language and Linguistics; History; Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies; Government; Edge Hotel School.
2pm-3pm: Economics; Life Sciences; Psychology; Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies; Mathematical Sciences; Philosophy and Art History (including Interdisciplinary Studies Centre).
3pm-4pm: Essex Abroad; Essex Pathways
4pm-5pm: Essex Business School
HSC Students: If you are a student in the School of Health and Social Care, there is not a specific session for your school and you may attend any of these sessions depending on your induction schedule.
Skills for Success runs the Essex English Language Assessment. We are also here to help you succeed in your studies and achieve your potential. We offer support and resources to help improve your writing, maths, research, study skills and English language, no matter what your discipline or level of study.
