Would you like to take part in the celebration of Human Rights Week?
Human Rights Week 2017 takes place 4 - 8 December and the Essex Human Rights Society has some amazing events for you to participate in. This year's theme is Human Rights Activism.
We are kicking off the week with the annual chalking of the steps between Squares 3 and 4, with the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Dr Ahmed Shaheed (Deputy Director of the Human Rights Centre) and Ula Dzudzewicz (President of the Human Rights Society) will be joining us, saying a few words on the importance of protecting human rights and human rights activism. Register your attendance by joining the society's Facebook event. We hope to have as many languages as possible!
"It’s a such an honour to be organizing Essex’s annual celebration of human rights. For our theme this year we have decided to focus on human rights activism. We believe that this is particularly important as people are becoming more involved in issues of social justice and we wanted to give them tools on how they can promote their cause even better! We want to encourage the community to consider why those issues are so important, how they influence our lives and what we can do to further this amazing cause."
Don’t forget to also check out the enormoboard between squares 2 and 3 throughout the week and write your personal answer as to why it is important that we have human rights.
See below for the full programme and we hope to see you at events throughout the week.
