Fernne Brennan was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law. Fernne joined the School in 2000 was an active member of the Human Rights Centre. Fernne was passionate in equal measure about her teaching (in particular on her module Race Equality Law) and her research. Her writing in recent years focused on the linkages between the transatlantic slave trade and institutional racism in the UK. In 2012, she co-edited (with John Packer) Colonialism, Slavery, Reparations and Trade: Remedying the 'Past'? (Routledge). She had recently completed work on her new book, Race Rights Reparations: Institutional Racism and The Law (Routledge). Fernne contributed to the life of the School over many years and we mourn her passing.
