Welcome week 2017

Your essential start to University life

Welcome week is the first week of the academic year and your essential introduction to university life - don't miss it!

As well as registering as an Essex student, we have a full programme of events and activities designed to help you get the best start possible to life at Essex.

We'll introduce you to your academic department, student life and the range of support available to you through the University and the Students' Union.

Our Welcome webpages are full of information to help you get settled into University life. If you can't find the answer there, please contact us at the Student Services Hub, your gateway to student information services at the University of Essex.

You’ll also find the latest day-to-day information on the digital screens around Campus and if you are at a loose end head to the SU Lounge, next to The Gateway Building, where you can relax, meet some new people  and find out about things to do.

5 Welcome week essentials

  1. The Welcome programme for your course is an unmissable part of Welcome week, so make sure that you follow it. Please check the digital signs around campus for more details of today's sessions.
  2. Registration at Essex is a two-step process.  Please complete step one of registration online before you arrive.  Once you're at Southend campus, please attend the registration session for your course/department/School during Welcome.
  3. Your departmental welcome event is a vital start to your degree at Essex, whatever your level of study.  These are taking place throughout the Welcome period.  Please ensure you attend.
  4. Is English your second language?  If so, please make sure you attend the Essex English Language Assessment on Thursday 12 October.
  5. Be sure to check out all the Students' Union has to offer during Welcome, and throughout the year!

Get involved

From Arrivals, right through Welcome, we have loads planned including activities at the University and in the town as well as talks, workshops, arts, cultural and sports activities.  Today's activities will be displayed on the digital screens throughout campus.

Fancy a cuppa, lunch or a drink with new friends?  Your first port of call should be SU’s The Lounge in Elmer Approach.  Across Southend there are cafes, restaurants and bars, which cater to suit all tastes, some with an amazing seafront location.
