Coming to live - and study - in a new country can be an intimidating experience.

Whether it is getting used to a different sort of study, different customs and ways of living, or just working out how to do your daily shopping, there are a huge number of challenges to be faced.  But living somewhere new is also hugely exciting, and should be a lot of fun as well.

This workshop offers you the chance to learn a bit more about the UK, its culture, and what it means to study here.  We will look at some stereoptypes about Britain and the British and explore some practical tips that can help you settle into life at the University of Essex.

This will also provide a fantastic opportunity to meet other people who are in the same position as you!

We look forward to meeting you at this optional workshop.

Get involved

From Arrivals, right through Welcome, we have loads planned including activities at the University and in the town as well as talks, workshops, arts, cultural and sports activities.  Today's activities will be displayed on the digital screens throughout campus.

Fancy a cuppa, lunch or a drink with new friends?  Your first port of call should be SU’s The Lounge in Elmer Approach.  Across Southend there are cafes, restaurants and bars, which cater to suit all tastes, some with an amazing seafront location.
