Think unconventional.

Think meeting world-class academics and like-minded students. Think family. Think home. Think taster lectures. Think making your mark. Think art. Think music. Think tea and cake, copious amounts of cake. Think of all this plus lots of free goodies, plenty of entertainment and much more! Think you know open days? Think again.

Travel and accommodation

You're welcome to arrive any time from 9.30am to register on the Open Day (don’t worry, we always put the kettle on earlier than this in case of any early arrivals!). The Open Day officially finishes at 4pm.

When you arrive head to our friendly staff in the Sports Hall who will register your arrival. We’ll only ask for your name so there’s no need to bring anything with you. Next, head to our Welcome Café, grab a free tea and coffee, put your feet up and customise your Open Day.

Getting to us by car

Whether approaching the University of Essex from London and the South or Ipswich and the North via the A12, take the exit marked Colchester (A133). Follow the A133 towards Clacton, ignore the entrance to the Knowledge Gateway, continue along the A133 then take the B1028 for Wivenhoe before turning right into Boundary Road. Look out for the AA road signs which will guide you to our Open Day parking area.

Please follow the 'Open Day Parking' signs which will lead you to the car park. Our patrol staff will be on hand to show you where to go. The address of our Colchester Campus is:

University of Essex
Wivenhoe Park

Getting to us by train

There are frequent trains from London Liverpool Street to Colchester with connections to Ipswich, Norwich, Felixstowe, Harwich and beyond.

Free coach service

We run a free coach service to and from Colchester's main station (also known as Colchester North), from 8.45am to 4.00pm. The coaches run on a shuttle service so you shouldn’t have to wait for more than 15 minutes. There will be Student Ambassadors at the train station and on the coaches to welcome you, so please look out for them outside the train station. There’s no need to book, just hop on the coach when you’re ready!

If you arrive later than expected, don’t worry, our Open Days run on a flexible basis and most subjects run morning and afternoon talk and taster sessions. If you miss a talk, our academics are on hand to fill you in and answer all of your burning questions from 9.30am - 4.00pm.
