This presentation will describe the GENOVATE Model for Transforming Gender Equality in Research and Innovation, which is a framework for developing and embedding gender equality principles, values and structures in Higher Education Institutions [HEI].
The development of the GENOVATE model is the outcome of the joint cooperation of all GENOVATE partner universities. The model offers guidance, tools and support in the implementation of Gender Equality Action Plans and gender mainstreaming mechanisms within HEIs, including research institutions. With a focus on transforming organisational cultures for gender equality in research and innovation, the GENOVATE Model, underpinned by the Change Academy Framework [Jackson, 2004], unravels, understands and documents this process and works as a guiding tool for enacting structural change.
The paper highlights implications for how both stability and change are accomplished within and beyond the GENOVATE institutions. It also considers how far such theories of change offer lenses for seeing the issues involved in implementing gender equality change programme, while illuminating some of the key achievements and challenges at different stages during the institution’s journey in developing its Gender Equality Action Plan.
