We are offering four fully-funded PhD research scholarships for students to participate in one of our Sustainable Transitions DTP projects. Each project will be interdisciplinary in nature and supervised by expert academics drawn from two (and in certain instances three) of the following five disciplines at the university; Business, Government, Law, Life Sciences and Sociology.
The Department plays a key role in the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Centre at Essex, which offers studentships for talented Home/EU postgraduate students. A number of our courses are accredited pathways and eligible for ESRC funding through to doctoral research.

The University, along with six partner institutions, is a member of CHASE: Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England, which has been awarded £17m from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to fund PhD studentships over a five-year period.
Applicants for PhD study in our Department can apply to CHASE for AHRC studentships. Funding covers fees, maintenance and professional development opportunities during your PhD.
