Profile
Biography
Emilia Del Bono is a Professor of Economics at the Institute for Social and Economic Research, University of Essex. Her research agenda is focused on the nature, causes, and consequences of disparities in children’s human capital that lead to inequalities later on in life. She is the main co-Investigator of the ESRC-funded project Inequality in Higher Education Outcomes in the UK: Subjective Expectations, Preferences and Access to Information, which aims to uncover new evidence about socio-economic inequalities in graduate outcomes through analyses on large secondary datasets (HESA student records, and DLHE short and long-term surveys) as well as new data collection (BOOST study). She is also a co-Investigator of the ESRC-funded Centre for Micro Social Change (MiSoC) with responsibility for the area of “Families, Schools and Children”. Her research involves applying advanced statistical techniques for the analysis of secondary data - administrative or survey - with a view to uncover causal relationships and provide sound policy recommendations. She has published in many different peer-reviewed journals, such as the Journal of the European Economic Association and the Economic Journal, and acted as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the Royal Economic Society, Series A (Statistics in Society) until the end of 2017. She is an IZA Research Fellow, a member of the ESRC Peer Review College and an elected member of the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE) Executive Committee.
