Profile
Biography
Nasir joined the University of Essex as a Lecturer in Physiology in 2023 as part of the School of Rehabilitation and Exercise Science, with a specific research focus in neurophysiology. He has a PhD in Sports Medicine, which investigated the neurophysiological correlates of brain trauma and fluid imbalances, using non-invasive brain stimulation. He is also a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford, as part of the Physiological Neuroimaging Group (PING), and The Physiological Society representative for the University of Essex. He has previously worked as a Clinical Research Practitioner at Queen Mary University London & NHS Barts Health, and as a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at London Metropolitan University, and City & Islington College. In addition to this, Nasir has previously worked as a Sports Scientist/S&C Coach for various professional organisations such as London Wasps RFC, Crystal Palace FC and the London Youth Games (Olympic weightlifting). His own sporting background is in freestyle wrestling and Olympic weightlifting, and he is a keen enthusiast of various combat sports.

An analysis of the kinematics and acute neurophysiological responses to repetitive head impacts in combat sports training.
A research collaboration with Prevent Biometrics and The Combat Institute to observe the neurophysiology and biomechanics of head impacts during sparring. Funding provided by the BBSRC IAA Engagement Grant.
