Biography

Giorgia Minello is a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE). Her research lies at the intersection of machine learning, graph representation learning, network science, and natural language processing, with a particular focus on structurally grounded artificial intelligence. She received her PhD in Computer Science from Ca' Foscari University of Venice in 2019, following earlier training in both statistics and computer science. Her multidisciplinary background has shaped a research approach that combines mathematical modelling, machine learning, graph theory, and data-driven analysis across a variety of domains. Her recent research has focused on graph neural networks, generative models for structured data, and interpretable AI. In particular, her work explores how relational information can be integrated into deep learning systems. A central aspect of her research concerns graph-based representations, motivated by the fact that many real-world systems can naturally be modelled as graphs, including social networks, molecular structures, biological systems, and semantic relationships. In this context, generative AI on graphs has become increasingly important for applications such as molecular and protein generation, scientific discovery, and the modelling of complex relational systems. Alongside methodological contributions in AI, she has also worked on interdisciplinary applications of machine learning, especially in computational social science, digital humanities, online social dynamics, and cultural analytics. Part of her work within the Horizon 2020 project ODYCCEUS focused on the study of antisemitism in French public discourse during the 19th century through large-scale textual analysis, natural language processing, and network analysis applied to historical archives. Over the years, she has collaborated with researchers from across Europe and Asia, including collaborations in Hong Kong, China, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Italy.
