Biography

Hussain serves as an assistant professor or lecturer in Finance and Accounting at the University of Essex, Southend. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting with distinction, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance with distinction from the University of Punjab, and a PhD in Business Management with a specialisation in Finance from the University of Minho, Portugal. During his MBA studies at the University of Punjab, he received merit scholarships for two consecutive years. Hussain’s research addresses contemporary topics at the intersection of finance, accounting, and management. His work has appeared in internationally recognized academic journals ranked as ABS 4 or ABS 3, such as the British Journal of Management (BJM), International Review of Financial Analysis (IRFA), Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money (JIFMIM), Financial Markets, Institutions & Instruments (FMII), International Journal of Finance & Economics (IJFE), Journal of Accounting, Finance & Business Studies (ABACUS), Journal of Accounting Literature (JAL), Journal of Business Research (JBR), Journal of Environmental Management (JEMA), and Business Strategy and the Environment (BSE), among others. He has recently revised and resubmitted manuscripts to Human Relations (ABS 4, FT50), Human Resource Management (ABS 4, FT50), European Journal of Finance (EJF), and Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting (RQFA). His current submissions are under review at the Journal of Corporate Finance (JCF), Journal of Banking and Finance (JBF), Journal of Management (JOM), The Leadership Quarterly (TLQ), and British Journal of Management (BJM). He loves to lead the projects, and hence, he is a leading author in more than 60% of his published or ongoing work. His published work has crossed 200 citations with an h-index of 8. He also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several leading journals. He recently secured an external funding of £225,000 from Innovate UK and two small funding grants of £10,000 from GUST SEED GRANTS. In 2023, he also won an internal funding award, the "Executive Dean Funding," worth £2,000. He is awaiting the outcome of two submitted applications, one for £5,407,482 to UKRI and the other for £10,000 to the British Academy. His leadership role in the institute is "Q-Step Lead", whereby he assists UG, PGT, and PhD students and colleagues struggling with data analysis, advanced econometrics, event studies, and using secondary databases, including Asset4, NRG Metrics, WorldScope, DataStream, Orbis, Securities Data Corporation (SDC), among several others. He is also a personal tutor of more than 10 students and collaborates with junior colleagues to help them publish in world-leading journals. Hussain is Associate Editor of Multinational Finance Journal and is active in participating and presenting work at international conferences such as the European Financial Management Association (EFMA), Portuguese Finance Network (PFN), and European International Business Academy (EIBA), amongst several others. He welcomes proposals from potential PhD students with innovative and ambitious projects.
