Profile

Biography

Having worked as a Senior Lecturer with the University of Brighton for nine years, in 2023 I started a role at the University of Essex as a Research Fellow in the Institute of Public Health and Wellbeing. Prior to my work in higher education I worked for four years as a Physical Education teacher holding department and whole school responsibilities for leading Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education within a secondary school in South-East England. In my role at Brighton I held pastoral responsibilities for an undergraduate cohort group, as well as leading and managing the placement element of the BA (Hons) Education degree. I was also school level lead within the University responsible for Employability, Placements and Partnerships. This role allowed me to work across schools in the University, as well as with outside agencies to meet the KPIs set out on School and University level action plans. As a member of Academic staff, I also had responsibility to produce research and scholarly activity. I have published in the field of sociology with particular focus on social deprivation. As well as researching I also held positions on both the School and University level Ethics Committees. Within these roles I assessed the Ethical viability of research projects from all areas of scholarship within the University and includes both qualitative and quantitative applications.
