There will be extra cause for celebration at next week’s Graduation 2018 at the University of Essex as we see our 100,000th student graduate.

Sofie Samuelsson, will become our 100,000th graduate during our 4pm ceremony on Thursday 19 July when she receives her Masters in Linguistics.

“Being a graduate of Essex has given me an amazing Masters on my CV,” said Sofie. “Linguistics is highly recommended at Essex and so it is great that I got my degree from here and that I did so well.

“I also like that I’ll always have this connection to Colchester through the University. It’s given me great connections for the future.”

Sofie, who is from Sweden, is currently working at Universal Web Design, based at the University’s Knowledge Gateway research and technology park, as a search engine optimisation specialist.

She explained: “I get to combine my love for writing with research skills I learnt at Essex and the ever-changing digital market. I also get to learn new techniques and tricks every day so I’m really enjoying it.”

As for her experience studying as Essex, she added: “I met some great people that I’m still close to today. I really liked the varied modules and the Languages for All option was great. It was also a beautiful campus where you had everything you needed.”
