We are looking to appoint volunteer Student Conduct Committee Staff Panel Members from our University staff to support us in dealing with serious cases of alleged student misconduct under our Code of Student Conduct.  As a panel member, you will be invited to serve on Student Conduct Committee meetings and contribute to determining the outcome. You will also help to ensure that all procedures are followed and that proceedings are carried out fairly and objectively.

To foster a safe culture, and create a welcoming and inclusive community, we need the best and brightest from within our diverse community to step forward. You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to act fairly and objectively, with care and sensitivity.

Your opportunity

  • A fantastic opportunity for broad and far-reaching personal development across a range of vital skills such as decision making, applying policy, leadership, and communication.
  • Make a difference in ensuring a safe and welcoming culture across the university campuses for students, staff and the local community.
  • Benefit from a formal program of training and support and join a community of practice.

Training and Support

To support you in your role, you will undertake a program of training provided by university experts and specialist external organisations, which will enable you to develop your skills in effective questioning and evaluating evidence, develop your knowledge and understanding of the types of behaviours that result in serious misconduct cases, and develop your knowledge of the University’s own procedures and support structures.  You will also be supported in developing your personal resilience and your ability to deal with sensitive issues.

You will be part of a broader community of colleagues working in this area, and through these networks, you will draw on support, review your practice, and contribute to policy, procedure and operational improvements in relation to the Code of Student Conduct. We need what makes you unique to ensure we offer a diverse and representative panel.

Please note that Student Conduct Committees are predominantly held remotely (via Zoom) but may require in-person attendance on exceptional occasions.

Who should apply?

This role is an ideal opportunity for any member of academic or professional services staff, grade 6 and above, who would like to make a positive difference in this important area of work.  We welcome applications that will enable our Conduct Panel to represent the diversity of our university community. It is also advisable to discuss the commitments of this opportunity with your line manager.
