Become a net zero hero with our Carbon Literacy for Climate Action Training sessions where we will cover your carbon footprint and the climate emergency. Celebrate your inner climate hero and discover what you could do to reduce your impact on the environment. You will also find out about what the university is doing to reach net zero by 2035. Contributing to these sessions will allow you to learn more about how you can help the university reducing it’s scope 1,2,3 emissions.

By 2024 we aim to have 50% of staff and students to have received Carbon Literacy training by 2024.

During Climate Action week we launched our first training session for staff. Since March this year we have run sessions for Digital Innovation Technology Services, Student Services and Essex Pathways. We will be running similar sessions for students as part of the Big Essex Award in the new academic year.

Alice from DITS said ‘The Carbon Literacy training provided by the Sustainability Engagement team is without doubt a real eye-opener. The one-hour session ensured we had a full understanding of our carbon footprints, and the impact of our everyday activities on climate change. The training is really engaging and has motivated the DITS Sustainability Working Group to create a positive shift towards reducing emissions across our projects. We highly recommend the Carbon Literacy training.’

For now here are some simple tips to reduce your carbon footprint

  • Eat a more plant based diet, reduce intake of dairy and meat products
  • Think about buying locally grown food
  • Cycle, walk or use public transport as much as you can

If you would like us to run a training session with your department please let us know and we hope to see your team soon!
