Biography

My current research is focussed on the visual legacy of the First World War at the centenary. The British government supported a large-scale arts programme in order to memorialise the First World War, and my research looks at the broad and specific implications of the act of remembrance through visual art. I am the Project Officer for the research project 'REPLACE - REbuilding a sense of PLACE' in the School of Art History and Philosophy, exploring how can we use 3D technologies in a socio-cultural role to sustain and support communities and heritage through disasters. I have also been involved as a research officer for the Fulbright Scholar programme within the Department of History at Essex, looking at the natural and historic heritage sites in Essex and Suffolk, and how they can be used to engage the public in the debate around climate change. I studied at Essex for both my BA and MA in History, completing my masters after a placement at the Essex Record Office where I was the researcher for project entitled Colchester: Then & Now. After finishing this in 2016, I took some years out from studying and worked in Development in the visual arts sector for a Plus Tate Organisation, which is where I really began to explore my passion for the way the visual world informs peoples understanding of history and heritage. I began my PhD part time in 2019, and have been really enjoying studying & working across different projects. I'm a member of History Indoors, and have given interviews to the BBC and the East Anglian Daily Times regarding the similarities and differences between Covid-19 and the Spanish Flu.
