Biography

Liam joined the University of Essex as Director of Communications in March 2022, following more than a decade working in the third sector. He began his career in policy and public affairs, lobbying government to improve opportunities for young people, before moving into communications and specialising in crisis management. He has served as Chair and Vice-Chair of several charities and educational institutions and was President of his Students Union for two years. In 2020, he was awarded the British Empire Medal by Queen Elizabeth II for services to young people. In 2026, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in The Kings Birthday Honours for services to the baby loss community. At Essex, Liam is responsible for strengthening the Universitys brand and reputation in the UK and internationally. He leads the Universitys corporate communications, promoting Essexs world-leading research and life-changing education, and oversees internal communications to ensure staff and students are informed, engaged and connected with university life.
