Biography

Working within the NHS and private sectors for over 20 years, Sarah is an experienced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with a special interest in Hand Therapy and First Contact Physiotherapy. Sarah currently practices within the NHS as a First Contact Physiotherapist in Primary Care, working as part of an exciting and dynamic team in Essex. Within her clinical practice role Sarah mentors First Contact Physiotherapists, undertakes clinical audit and service development activities in addition to managing a complex caseload. Sarah’s’ work evidences competencies across the 4 pillars of advance clinical practice, she is also a member of the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT) and an Accredited Hand Therapist. Teaching within Higher Education has enabled sharing of her specialist knowledge and skills, supporting postgraduate Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists to extend their scope of practice towards Advanced Practice level. This involves leading the MSc in Musculoskeletal Assessment and Practice – Hand Therapy and contributing to various MSc pathways and modules including the First Contact Physiotherapy Postgraduate certificate which is recognised by the Centre for Advancing Practice under NHS England. Sarah is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and passionate about supporting students to utilise research evidence to inform and impact their clinical practice. Research interests include hand therapy and first contact physiotherapy, she also has a role a reviewer of publications for an advanced practice journal. Chartered Physiotherapist (67433), Registered with the Healthcare Professions Council (PH62275), Member of the British Association of Hand Therapists (2049).
