Profile

Biography

Roomi is a global public health (policy & research) professional, originally from Pakistan, having spent over a decade working in health systems and social sector development projects. Her broad interests and experience has been in application of research to public health policy design, systems and programmatic evaluations. Most of these large-scale and high impact projects and programmes have been with UN bodies, leading bi- and multi-lateral partners, provincial and federal government of Pakistan. Some of her last works in Pakistan included technical frameworks for PC1s, strategic action plans that have had a significant policy traction, with the likes of the National Gender Policy Framework (approved 2022), Investment Plan for Universal Health Coverage (2021) and Technical Frameworks to guide the GBP 345 million COVID19 Response PC-1 for Building Resilient Health Systems (2020-21). She is best known for her technical writing, rapport building, rapid analysis and reviews, and crisp no-nonsense presentations for high level policy forums. Her core strengths are strategic policy analysis, research planning, stakeholder management, technical communication and building engaged, happy and highly performing teams. She particularly enjoy data analytics and visualization, technical illustrations and field photography. In her PhD journey at the University of Essex, she is exploring systemic and structural determinants of health workforce crisis with focus on gender. She is also the training lead for the NIHR funded global health research group GEMMS (GEMMS-research.org). Her current research interests include: Human Resources for Health Health Systems Strengthening & Social Determinants of Health Migration & Health
