Biography

Esther Ariyo is a lecturer at the school of health and social care of the University of Essex. She holds a bachelor’s degree in child development and family studies and a master’s degree in health social work. Esther’s doctorate investigated varying domains of armed conflict-affected children’s wellbeing in collaboration with non-governmental organisations working with displaced communities at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. Esther's research focuses on children's wellbeing including conflict-affected children, children in kinship care and other vulnerable children. Her research investigates children's wellbeing from the positive mental health angle (to include subjective wellbeing, life satisfaction and hope) and the educational (school satisfaction, and educational aspiration) domains perspectives. Her research method expertise includes quantitative surveys (using primary and secondary data) and participatory qualitative studies with children. Esther has collaborated with some of the best researchers across Austria,Spain, United Kingdom, South Africa, Belgium, Nigeria, and Germany. In the last five years, she has led research projects on child subjective wellbeing,school satisfaction and educational aspiration in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Before joining the University of Essex, Esther worked as a Lecturer at Osun state university Nigeria, a project manager with non-governmental organizations, and a social worker with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social welfare in Nigeria.
