The nation’s best basketball players are set to descend on Essex for a prestigious weekend of exciting elite sport.

All 12 of England’s top tier professional women’s teams will compete in a crunch tournament unfolding across two action-packed days.

They will be joined by four teams from the second division in the exciting Women’s British Basketball League Trophy.

Eight games will take place back-to-back with tickets on sale for just £5 each day, for the event which runs from Saturday January 7th to Sunday January 8th..

Spectators will be treated to four high-stakes matches each day with the festival of sport being hosted entirely in the £12m Essex Sport Arena.

Boasting home advantage the Essex Rebels will hope to kickstart their trophy run in front of a packed home crowd.

All the stops have been pulled out to ensure a buzzing atmosphere – with off-court entertainment, DJs, mascot contests and a top-tier light show set to stun spectators.

Dr Dave Parry, Director of Sport, said: “We are so excited for this amazing event which will celebrate and showcase all that is good about British basketball.

“Hosting a single game creates a buzz about campus so this promises to be a real carnival of sport that will cement The University of Essex’s place as the region’s number one sporting institution.

“This will be a great weekend for everyone in the region whether you are a seasoned basketball fan or new to the game.

“After all why not make it your New Year’s resolution to cheer on the Essex Rebels and support the city’s fastest growing sport."
