iTeams - Technology challenge

Hosted by Essex Startups

In today’s world, every organisation risks standing still, but innovation is rarely just about the latest technology. It can reshape every aspect of a business, from how it operates and serves customers to how it builds trust and creates value.

At the iTeams Challenge Autumn 2026, you’ll step outside your comfort zone and take on the role of an innovation consultant, developing a solution to a real-world technology challenge. You’ll strengthen your problem-solving, teamwork and pitching skills while exploring how technology can drive change, open new markets, and create opportunities for growth. By the end, you won’t just be ready to respond to change, you’ll be equipped to lead it. This eight-session programme will be delivered face-to-face, starts on Wednesday 28 October 2026, and runs for 7 consecutive weeks.

The sessions will take place at the Innovation Centre on the Colchester Campus - opposite Essex Business School.

Three businesses will deliver three real-world challenges to a maximum of six student teams (made up by several students across different faculties). Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Each team will be mentored by an external industry expert and is ultimately required to deliver a well-researched solution to a real-world problem. They are there to champion, challenge and advise their teams throughout the process.

Students will develop their ability to work in a team, develop problem identification and solving skills, deliver and articulate suggested solutions, and realising limitations and benefits accordingly.

The business will gain insights from new ways of thinking whilst engaging creatively with students. This will lead to a better understanding of the value that new insights can bring.

THE PRIZES:
