In this module we explore human physiological function and performance is affected by environmental conditions. This will include seasonal and socio-geographical environmental stresses and air travel. By the end of this module, students should have an understanding of how humans both influence and are able to adapt to environmental s challenges.
Your coursework and feedback will help you critically evaluate relationships between humans and the environment
Support sessions will help you to develop your critical thinking skills and show you the best way to interact with assessment feedback. To pass the module you will need to demonstrate competence in retrieval, analysis, interpretation and presentation of published information.
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:
1. explain the principles of physiological regulation and adaptation to environmental extremes;
2. understand the concepts of acclimatisation and acclimation as they apply to specific environmental conditions;
3. explain the effects of extreme environments on human physical and physiological performance and survival;
4. critically evaluate relationships between environmental exposure and performance and the methods used to prepare for performance in extreme environments;
5. demonstrate competence in retrieval, analysis, interpretation and presentation of published information.
