Module description

This module provides students with an introduction to the underpinning concepts and principles of sport coaching practice.

Within the module, students will explore a variety of topic areas including coaching behaviours and communication, practice designs and coaching approaches, ethics and inclusivity in coaching, developing a coaching philosophy, alongside being introduced to performance analysis and its role in supporting the coaching process. Specifically, this module provides students with the opportunity to design, deliver, and reflect upon coaching practice both individually and collaboratively.

Module aims

The aim of this module is to provide students with an introduction to the coaching process, by exploring key principles and concepts which inform the design and delivery of sport coaching practice.

Module learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate the process and principles of planning, delivering, and evaluating coaching practice.
2. Describe and understand different coaching behaviours, approaches, and practice designs.
3. Discuss the importance of ethics, inclusivity, and safeguarding in coaching.
4. Develop a range of communication and presentation skills to support the coaching process.
5. Demonstrate the ability to work and coach collaboratively with others.
6. Critically reflect upon past and present coaching experiences.
