Module description

A substantial component of this Foundation Degree is based on your own practice in their workplace. You will continue with normal work responsibilities. You will have a work-place mentor who will support you in your work-based practice and think with you about various aspects of your overall work experience with your course in mind. You will meet your mentor weekly for at least 30 minutes and consider recent learning from your course, how this fits with your role in the organisation, and how you can apply what you have learned to your work. Your mentor will also help you to consider which client to concentrate upon for your case study.

You need to choose one client, fairly early in the academic year, on whom you are going to concentrate in order to write your case study. This could be someone you are working closely with, or someone whom you can observe on a regular basis through the year. Consult your tutor and mentor if this presents any difficulties in your work role.

Your mentor will fill out a short mentor meeting record and keep your attendance. You will be expected to use the mentoring in a way mutually agreed with your mentor in order to support your learning. Both you and your mentor will review your learning and progress within four core areas (Personal Management, Therapeutic Communication, Organisational Dynamics and Psychodynamic Theory and Practice) – see mentor information. Towards the end of the year your mentor will write a final report and give you a final grade.

The coursework consists of one 2500 word case study and one 2500 word reflective report.
