This final year module strives to help students further develop and consolidate their advanced language skills in Spanish and its varieties through the study of different aspects of Hispanic culture and society. This module will make use of authentic and online materials where students will be encouraged to analyse and criticise written and spoken pieces of Spanish about topics currently on the news.
The module consolidates the grammar learnt up until now and emphasizes the differences between registers and written styles.
The aims of the module are to enhance knowledge and awareness of some of the subtleties of the Spanish language while developing further knowledge of some aspects of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking countries.
Students should be able: to understand with ease virtually everything heard or read; to summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation; to express themselves spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations; and would also have acquired a set of transferable skills (communication; presentation; conversation; précis writing; team work).

Language modules typically involve 3 contact hours per week. Confirmed details will be announced at the start of the academic year.
