Module description

This module provides students with opportunities to experience the specific conditions of directing other drama students at East 15 or an alternative drama school or a university context.

Module aims

Students are asked to take responsibility for directing other drama students in material appropriate for the development of the acting/performance art students. Alternatively, the student may be given an opportunity to shadow and work with an experienced director at a drama school or university. Whilst the nature of the material will vary and can be the subject of discussion with tutors, the student director is expected to engage with the student actors on a professional level and thus to be responsive to the specific needs of a group of students at a given stage of their training/development.

The emphasis of this module is on rehearsal and the solving of problems. It is not primarily concerned with production values which may be kept to a minimum. The length of the material will vary according to the requirements of the group of students involved.

Course tutors will advise individual students of their suitability for this module. A thorough knowledge of and sympathy with acting processes within an educational context are essential. Attachments under this module must be approved in advance by the Head of Programme.
