Module description

This module shows how information and communication technology (ICT) systems support an organisation. It includes lifecycle and process issues in the context of information systems. Students will compare and contrast different technologies and techniques to assess the quality of systems.

Module aims

The aims of this module are to introduce students to how ICT systems can be managed, and how business applications can be integrated. The taught theory will be complimented by 'guest' lecturers from industry who will set the theory into a real-life context.

Module learning outcomes

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate a critical understanding of how ICT systems can support an organisation.
2. Critically evaluate information systems by discussing relevant lifecycle and software process issues.
3. Compare and contrast different methods and techniques used to assure the quality of systems.
4. Demonstrate originality in designing and visually representing business processes, and integrating components of a System.
5. Manage a project and plan an implementation.

Learning and teaching methods

The module will be fully online with all supporting material, including lectures, to be provided as recorded material. There will be an academic/GTA assigned to the module as a support person with academic support hours provided.

  • In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam.
