Capital Planning Group (CPG)

Capital Planning Group (CPG) is a sub-group of the University Steering Group. Its role is to support USG in the development and implementation of the University's Capital Investment Plan (CIP) of capital projects, in order to support delivery of the University's Strategic Plan, 2019-2025.

What does CPG do?

CPG recommends to the USG, the University’s Capital Investment Plan (CIP), covering all capital expenditure requirements of the University. Key activities include:

  • responsible to USG for overseeing the system through which the University manages individual capital projects, to ensure that they proceed to time, to budget and deliver their intended benefits
  • recommending new projects to USG for inclusion within the CIP and change control requests for existing capital projects which require an increase in capital expenditure, prioritising them against the requirements of the Strategic Plan and the contribution they will make to the delivery of excellence in education and research. This also includes requests from University of Essex Campus Services Ltd and Knowledge Gateway Ltd
  • identifying longer term capital investment requirements for the University, to inform the University’s overall financial strategy and to recommend to USG any implications of these requirements for the University’s investment of its reserves and its external borrowings which might need to be drawn to the attention of Resources Committee.

Who is on CPG?

CPG is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Its membership includes senior managers from Professional Services, and academic representation. The full list of CPG's membership is available on the Committees webpages.
