Translation and the study of foreign languages are my major interests. I have translated poetry (chiefly sonnets) from German, French, Spanish and Italian (see www.brindin.com). I have also translated several German prose texts, including 'Fortunatus' and works by Hoffmann, Chamisso, Eichendorff, and Johannes von Tepl. These can be found, together with a range of academic essays on literature and translation, at my Internet website, www.michaelhaldane.com. At present I am living in Japan and working on the translation of haiku and tanka into English.
