Why choose Essex Business School for your MBA?
Your future
Essex Business School has designed an MBA programme for a new
breed of business leader; one who needs to be innovative,
inquisitive, creative, and ethical.
An MBA is not just about the course or qualification; it is
about your future. Whether your goal is to become an executive
or an entrepreneur, the right MBA will accelerate your career.
That 'right MBA' must not only provide general business
knowledge. This knowledge must be current and tackle the big
issues facing organizations today, and those they will encounter
tomorrow. The Essex MBA provides you with such knowledge and
also equips you with the skill sets allowing you to apply this
newly acquired knowledge in the workplace. Our restricted cohort
size will ensure that you have the individual attention you
deserve to maximise the value of your investment in the course.
The Essex MBA has four distinguishing characteristics:
- A focus on the needs of both Business and Society
- A focus on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity
- Builds on Research Excellence in Finance and Accounting
- Builds on strong links with experienced practitioners from
industry, finance and the public sector
A focus on the needs of both Business and Society.
The
recent Global Financial Crisis has shown that 'business as
usual' is no longer an acceptable option. In order to survive
and prosper in today's increasingly complex world, organizations
must both add economic value and recognise the social, ethical
and environmental implications of their strategies and
practices. Our first cornerstone integrative module,
Sustainable Business Strategies, aims to prepare students
for such a new world. This sustainability ethos runs through the
programme and is further evidenced in the original takes of the
Essex MBA on traditional subjects such as
Marketing.
A focus on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Creativity.
The
Entrepreneurship and Innovation group, who co-ordinate our
second cornerstone integrative module
Innovation and Entrepreneurship, have established a niche
centre of international educational excellence, contributing to
the development of a critical appreciation of entrepreneurship
and its role in both the economy and society. Faculty in the
Management Group have built up strong reputations in the field
of organizational creativity and the creative industries, and
are involved in world-wide research partnerships in this area.
Builds on Research Excellence in Finance and Accounting.
Essex Business School's research excellence was confirmed when
it was ranked 2nd in the UK in the Accounting and Finance
subject area in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.
Accounting and Finance staff contribute to our two cornerstone
modules and offer a range of additional core and optional
modules. The core module in
Managerial Accounting provides the foundations required in
order to understand the rapidly changing landscape of accounting
standards and will ensure that the necessary tools are presented
to enable managers to make informed business decisions.
Builds on strong links with experienced practitioners from
industry, finance and the public sector.
The
Essex MBA invites members from its external advisory board, all
of whom have business experience at a senior level, to
contribute to curriculum development and the delivery of the
programme. Members of the
EBS Advisory Board
and the
EBS Executive Fellows are particularly involved in the 'Ensuring
Employability' series of workshops on the MBA programme.
There is a significant link with major institutions in the City
of London (including HSBC, Credit Suisse and RBS) and in
particular students have an optional module
Industry Expert Lectures
in Finance
taught entirely by practitioners . Members of the MBA teaching
staff also have strong links with non-governmental organisations
(NGOs) via their participation in
Essex
Community Advice
(formerly the NGO Clinic). The fostering of links with, and
learning from, experienced practitioners is a core element of
the MBA students' experience at Essex Business School.
Community advice
Essex Community Advice offers professional advice and support to non-government, voluntary
and other not-for-profit organisations. This pro bono service is part of our University's broader commitment to social
justice, equality and socially responsible professional development.
Entrepreneurship
The Centre for Entrepreneurship Research is a well-established research centre at Essex Business School (EBS), University of Essex, one of the leading research institutions in the UK.
Management Centre
The Essex Management Centre has a national and international reputation for applying leading edge critical scholarship to the understanding of organizational processes, and the development of practical but theoretically informed perspectives on organizational problems.
