Why choose the University of Essex?

The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions with a reputation for top quality teaching and research. We were rated 16th in England for student satisfaction (National Student Survey 2010) and 9th out of 159 universities and colleges in the last national assessment of research quality.

Watch our new Research Discoveries series on YouTube to find out why a number of our world-leading academic staff chose Essex.

Studying with us represents a real investment in your future. The Essex Degree offers:

A world-class academic experience

Essex students learn in a modern, challenging and stimulating environment of world-class research and high-quality teaching by top academics and researchers who are leaders in their fields. We teach our students how to think, not what to think, offering something engaging and valuable. You will have the opportunity to engage with your chosen subjects and in many cases you will also be able to cross traditional academic boundaries through interdisciplinary study.

A truly international experience

From the moment you arrive at Essex, you are welcomed into a friendly, international community where you will experience many cultures and perspectives. Not only will you have the opportunity to work, study or volunteer in another country during your time with us, but after graduating, you will belong to a global network of Essex alumni, offering a sense of belonging and a group of potential contacts who share the same passion and enthusiasm for learning, life and Essex.

A supportive experience

We will support your individuality, nurturing ambition and independence of thought to help you achieve your aspirations and goals. Building on our sense of fairness and tolerance we will enable you to become a well-rounded, open-minded individual who succeeds academically, professionally and socially.

An enabling experience

Essex provides a strong foundation for your future career. It's no longer enough to rely on skills alone in the job market. Working with you, we will help to identify how to apply your knowledge and experience to achieve professional success. We want you to achieve a healthy work-life balance and become a confident and enterprising individual.

An experience to last a lifetime

Being an Essex student offers a unique combination of living and learning which will set you up for life. Your time at Essex will be an unforgettable experience which will help shape your future.
