University of Sanctuary students

We understand that change and a new environment can sometimes be stressful and with the pressures of everyday life too, we want to provide you with the right tools and support.

As a University of Sanctuary student, you can get extra help during your studies. The Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service can offer you a designated member of staff who can support and guide you through your time at Essex.

By emailing wellbeing@essex.ac.uk you can expect to receive tailored student advice on mental and emotional health difficulties, support with your development and more information about the support available to you from the university or the wider community.

Financial support

Refugee Bursary

If you're a student with UK refugee status, or a dependant of UK refugees, you may be eligible for a bursary of up to £1500 if you are studying full time or up to £750 if you are studying part time.

External support

Refugee Action – Colchester supports refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants who are making a new life here. Some find themselves in difficult circumstances and struggle to cope with the complex systems our society has developed. This organisation can provide guidance and advice of living and integrating into the wider community.
